A dog that, although no longer with us, still impacts what we do.
Addison Marie Ferrer (Addie) was a terrific dog. A longtime loyal partner to her owner, trainer, and handler since being adopted from a shelter in Texas, she was keenly smart, super sweet, and very loving.
Addie brought love, compassion, acceptance, and comfort to hundreds of people of all ages and abilities throughout her career as a beloved therapy dog over the course of several years.
Addie first focused on basic manners and polite behavior, obtaining Canine Good Citizen, Canine Good Citizen Urban, and Canine Good Citizen Advanced titles from the American Kennel Club (AKC).
She then competed in the sport of Scent Work, starting with the National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW) and then transitioning to AKC. She won many ribbons, reaching Scent Work Container Advanced and Scent Work Interior Advanced titles from the AKC.
Addie then entered the world of AKC Competition Obedience, reaching the title of Companion Dog. Along the way, she worked on her tricks, reaching the level of Trick Dog Advanced from the AKC.
A little later in life, Addie trained in therapy dog work and was certified, working in New York and Connecticut.
She visited multiple times per week at a high school, an elementary school, and a senior living facility. She was inspirational to the founding of Therapy Dog Brigade, and her likeness is captured in our logo illustration.
In January of 2026, not long after reaching Therapy Dog Advanced title from the AKC, Addie died unexpectedly. While her passing saddens us, the memory of her service to others motivates those of us who do the work that we do.
